# Developer tools

> The CLI, the VS Code extension, Cursor support, the MCP servers and the GitHub scanner: what each one is for and where its docs are

These tools find the LLM calls in your code that do not go through
PromptGuard, and help you route them through it. They complement the
[SDKs](https://docs.promptguard.co/guides/sdks.md), which protect the calls at runtime. Pick by where you
work:

| You work in | Use | It does |
| - | - | - |
| A terminal or CI | [CLI](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/cli.md) | Finds LLM SDK clients in Python, JavaScript and TypeScript, rewrites them to use the proxy, and scans text for threats |
| VS Code | [VS Code extension](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/vscode.md) | Flags unprotected LLM SDK calls in the editor, with quick fixes that run the CLI |
| Cursor | [Cursor](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/cursor.md) | The MCP server, the editor extension, and agent rules and commands |
| An AI editor, coding agent or ChatGPT | [MCP servers](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/mcp.md) | Lets the agent scan text, redact PII and find LLM SDK calls in code |
| GitHub | [GitHub scanner](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/github-scanner.md) | Scans connected repositories and can open a pull request that adds protection |

A CI/CD security gate that runs red-team checks on every pull request is on
the [roadmap](https://docs.promptguard.co/tools/ci-cd-security-gate.md); the CLI covers CI today.
